- A high end Gem example of the third and final variety of the 1864 cent, featuring designer James B. Longacre's initial L on the ribbon. Lightly toned in olive-gray, and then again mostly on the obverse, plenty of vivid mint orange color remains. Well struck, although both dies were heavily worn and eroded when this coin was produced. Softly frosted in texture with expectably few blemishes for the assigned grade. The Snow-5a attribution provides additional appeal, although it is not noted on the PCGS insert. Repunching to the digits 18 in the date is still discernible despite the advanced die state; the reverse also shows several cracks and areas of die swell around the periphery. An intriguing piece for the specialist, and also a conditionally rare one in a Mint State 1864 L on Ribbon Indian cent.
