THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART IV Only 5,000 half dollars were struck for circulation in 1887, as the mints focused their operations on churning out millions of Morgan dollars. This GEM is a lovely survivor from that low mintage. Flashy and brilliant, the surfaces gleam boldly with a strong luster. Some light peripheral toning highlights the rims and frames the untoned silver centers. The eye appeal is quite alluring. PCGS 19, NGC 17. We sold the last two NGC MS65 examples, realizing $3,173 and $3,643 in earlier offerings of the Boylston Collection coins. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $4,500.
