- 1857 Liberty Seated Quarter. Proof-64+ Cameo (PCGS). CAC. Bright and lustrous silver motifs and deep mirror fields glow with warm golden highlights. Struck prior to 1859, the year the Mint began keeping track of the quantity of proofs they produced. The PCGS website suggests ""30 to 40 known"" for the issue, that figure no doubt the result of study based on submissions of proofs of the date to the firm. The only example of the date called Proof-64+ Cameo by PCGS. An undeniably choice example of the date, and a coin that holds up well to careful examination.

Numismatic Reflections by Q. David Bowers
This lovely Gem will attract a lot of excitement as it crosses the auction block. The number of different known pieces is in the dozens, with the result that sometimes a year or two or three will elapse between our offering an example for sale. Interestingly, the same reverse die was used to strike both proof quarter dollars of 1856 and 1857 and is distinguished by a bulge in the field at the right. A very important opportunity to acquire a very important coin.
