Intriguing Plain Edge Pattern Dollar (t) CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, ND (1916). PCGS SPECIMEN-65+ Gold Shield. cf. L&M-944 (dies of 942); cf. K-663e (dies of 663); KM-Unlisted; WS-0099 (same dies); Shanghai Museum-Mr. Shi Jiagan's collection-Unlisted. Plain edge. This fabulous example is highly unusual in that it is the plain edge variety instead of the commonly encountered reeded edge, as such it should be considered EXTREMELY RARE, highly desirable, and of significant numismatic importance. The crisp, frosty design features accentuate the expressive portrait, complemented by the smooth, satiny surfaces that display a beautifully rich, delicate, mottled gray patina with a lovely iridescent sheen. This fantastically pleasing and exquisite specimen exhibits great eye appeal certain to catch the attention of many advanced collectors. A tremendous offering that occurs so seldom that it should generate much attention and serious consideration from potential bidders. It is important to note that the present specimen, though technically L&M-944, was actually struck from the dies of L&M-942 which normally features a reeded edge.
