You can see this remarkable Proof Gold rarity from across the room. The contrast is bold, dramatic, and stunning. It is among the FINEST examples graded at either service. Highly polished dies imparted a very deep mirror finish to the fields. They really are dark and offer a seductive reflection. The planchet was heated to a point where the orange peel effect was etched into the surfaces when the polished dies came together. You can see some minor lint marks left from the polishing. The devices are very sharply struck as you would expect on a proof, and are fully frosted and stand out with dramatic contrast against the mirrored fields. A strong glass reveals a few stray lines in the fields, none of which are distracting and are accounted for in the assigned grade. Closer inspection of the rims, we note some tiny marks. After some conversations in house and showing blown up images to John Dannreuther, we believe that there were minor mint made flaws on the rim at 12:00 and 6:00 on the obverse that were removed ages ago. We note this only for the sake of full disclosure, but they really are limited to the rim, and do not affect the wonderful eye appeal of the rest of the coin. VERY RARE, only 122 were struck and the new Dannreuther reference on Proof Gold estimates 45-60 specimens survive. PCGS 3, NGC 2. There are only two records for a PR66 DCAM in auction, a PCGS/CAC coin that sold in the 2013 ANA auction for $58,750 and an NGC/CAC coin that sold in October 2012 for $47,000. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $75,000. This is an ULTRA RARE and very pleasing GEM Proof quarter eagle and will see very strong bidding. Cert. Number 4673519-004 PCGS # 97913
