Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to present the FINEST KNOWN 1921 Chapman Proof Morgan dollar. Of the entire series, the Chapman Proofs are among the RAREST of the RARE regardless of condition. It is estimated only 40 were minted by special request by the Chapman Brothers, coin dealers in Philadelphia in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Like Farran Zerbe, who also had specially issued Morgan dollars in 1921, they had connections in the Philadelphia mint, and they were obliged. The Chapman Proofs look more like the Proofs that were struck in 1878-1904, while the Zerbe Proofs (which are more “common” ) have more of a “Specimen” finish. Unbelievable quality mirrors are ultra bold, deep, and flash endlessly from all over, offering stunning clarity and cleanliness. The classic Morgan dollar design types are exceptionally well struck and display thick mint frost, creating a nearly full CAMEO contrast and bold look. There are a few tiny die polish lines in the fields, but they are mint made and microscopic, visible only with the aid of a strong glass and have no impact on the totally awesome visual allure of this HISTORIC numismatic RARITY.
