Another GORGEOUS 1873 trime that is among the FINEST KNOWN of this final date! It is amazing that The Shapiro Collection has two examples of this date in a superb state of preservation. Incredibly colorful and highly reflective, this Premium Quality GEM has it all! Rich pink and rose hues caress the centers, ringed by purple and blue tones that frame the peripheries. Thick, creamy mint frost covers the sharply struck devices, which contrast wonderfully against the colorfully toned reflective mirrored fields. The eye appeal cannot be beat! This is one of the most beautiful examples we have seen--and you know our (and our sister firm, Legend Numismatics) track record with AMAZING examples of this series. Only 600 Proofs were struck, and this is a Proof only issue. A hoard of these were auctioned off by Stack's a couple of decades ago, and it is possible that this coin came from that source. PCGS 15, NGC 11, CAC 12. There are three graded PR66+ CAM and just five graded finer. We sold the ONLY PR66+ CAM to sell in auction, a lovely coin in our March 2019 Regency Auction, which realized $8,519.
