- 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 52-i, W-5280. Rarity-3. Pronounced Outline to Shield. AU-55 (PCGS). Medium golden tan with a soft mint orange underglow in places. Amazingly free of marks other than the central ticks that were in the planchet when struck and that were not eradicated during striking due to the failure of the copper to completely fill the dies (for comparison purposes and for those new to the New Jersey coppers field, this same phenomenon occurs frequently in the Walking Liberty half dollar series). Nicely struck, aesthetically appealing, and choice for the grade.
