An amazing HIGH END example with dazzling luster bouncing off the satiny smooth surfaces in waves of brilliance. Traces of brick red, baby blue, tangerine and honey gold hues grace nearly immaculate surfaces. A couple of teensy ticks are seen on King Kalakaua the First's neck when using strong magnification. The devices are keenly struck and are so thick with mint frost they look hewn from a block of ice.
The 1883 Kingdom of Hawaii coinage dies were created at the Philadelphia Mint by renowned engraver Charles E. Barber, also known for his design of the dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1892-1916. Despite the dies being engraved in Philadelphia, the actual coins were struck in San Francisco for an agent of the Hawaiian government by the name of Claus Spreckels.
PCGS 23, NGC 6, CAC 19. PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,000. In July 2022, a CAC stickered specimen sold for $4,750 and in August of 2021, a CAC example sold for $3,840. It appears the price for choice examples is steadily climbing. With just 4 coins grading finer at PCGS and 1 at NGC, you would be wise not to miss this great opportunity to add a legendary piece to your cabinet!
