Scarce 2012 Casascius 1 BTC Acquired from Mike Caldwell Loaded and Active UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Casascius 1 Bitcoin (BTC), 2012. Loaded. Firstbits 1CCGaovW. Series 2. Brass. 28.5 mm. PCGS MS-64. This is an active and loaded cryptocurrency coin containing 1 BTC. It is a very attractive example with astounding reflectivity in the obverse fields. Vibrant golden-wheat shades are accented by richer bronze and crimson coloration near the borders. An important opportunity to acquire this desirable and SCARCE 2012 example from the prized Casascius series created by Mike Caldwell, a software engineer from Utah, USA. It ranks as only of only four coins from this issue graded by PCGS. It is also superior in condition to the 2011 Casascius 1 BTC that realized $78,000 in our April 2022 sale with a grade of PCGS MS-63. This particular specimen was acquired directly from Mike Caldwell in November 2012 as part of the consignor's second order of Casascius coins. It was purchased alongside a 25 BTC coin, ten 10 BTC coins, a 5 BTC, and another 1 BTC which is also offered in this sale (firstbits 1CcqaXtR). While the 2011 and 2013 Casascius 1 BTC appear with relative frequency, the 2012 1 BTC is ELUSIVE on the market. Over 30% of the 2012 1 BTC have since been peeled and redeemed, making this loaded example an important find for collectors. Issued on a 28.5mm brass planchet, the obverse features the Bitcoin currency symbol at center surrounded by a legend listing the date, denomination, and the Latin phrase "VIRES IN NUMERIS" that translates as "Strength in Numbers." The reverse features a tamper-resistant holographic sticker with the firstbits address printed at the center. Beneath the holographic sticker is the private key that, once revealed, allows the owner to sign a transaction, thus "spending" the bitcoin attached to this coin.
