A highly important transitional pattern pairing the regular issue die of 1866 on the obverse with the regular issue No Rays die, as adopted in 1867. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Magnificent GEM quality. Beautiful even, milk chocolate brown surfaces show glimpses of original mint red and accents of gold and azure that pop in the light. The mirrors are highly reflective and watery, imparting a great eye appeal! PCGS 1, NGC 2, CAC 2. The other CAC-approved example is the Harry Bass/ANA Museum Display coin that was NGC graded, selling for $5,875 in the 2014 ANA auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,250 and this coin has not appeared in any auction that we can find.
