- BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1618-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Jimenez de Tapia (T). Philip III. PCGS Genuine--Salt Water Damage, VF Details.
KM-9; Cal-776. Weight: 13.28 gms. A wonderful cob recovered from the Atochashipwreck of 1622. Despite the saltwater damage caused by its centuries under the sea, this piece is replete with identifiable details. On the obverse, the Habsburg shield is quite well-centered and retains satisfying detail. Beside it, the mintmark and initial from this SCARCEassayer remain quite clear. The reverse displays enough of all four digits of the date to positively attribute this coin to the year 1618. An excellent piece of shipwreck treasure.
Estimate: $300 - $500.
Provenance: From the Pat Johnson Collection.
Ex: Atocha. With original ticket from Treasure Salvors, Inc.
