- EX SIMPSON. A lovely Standard Silver half dollar. A bust of Liberty facing right wearing a coronet; the denomination within an open agricultural wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this pattern is more common, rated R-5 (31-75 estimated to exist). This pleasing near gem has bold, water mirrors that shine in the light. Essentially untoned, save for the ever most subtle dusting of gold at the rims. Only a touch of striking weakness at the extreme high points of the design. PCGS 3, NGC 3, CAC 1. Because it is considered “common” by pattern standards, examples of J-951 do not get the respect they deserve, especially with the CAM designation. The last one to sell was a PR64+ CAM that brought only $1999 in March 2016. Currently the CU value is $2,500 and the 10th Edition of Judd lists a retail value of $2,500 in 63 and $3,500 in 65. We think this is a great pattern struck in the intended metal, and worthy of any set of patterns. Certification Number 30934783 PCGS # 861197
