- 1888 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. MS-65 (PCGS). Beautifully patinated in golden-rose, this expertly preserved Gem also sports billowy mint luster and sharp striking detail. Despite having a higher mintage than the preceding circulation strike quarter eagles from the 1880s, the 1888 was still produced in limited numbers when viewed in the wider context of U.S. Mint history. Survivors from a delivery of 16,001 pieces are scarce in grades through MS-64 and rare any finer. PCGS Population: 23; 14 finer (MS-66+ finest). PCGS# 7840. NGC ID: 25LC.
