- Of the two major variations of 1856 gold dollar, the Slanted 5 is the more available, but most are known in lower grade. PQ Gems as offered here are indeed quite rare and anything finer must be regarded as EXTREMELY RARE. This is visually appealing example with a soft, medium yellow gold coloration that is brought to life with a thick, satiny finish to the frosted surfaces. A glowing luster beams around the crisply struck up devices. There are only the most minimal breaks to the mint frost, but otherwise the surfaces are without flaw. Needless to say, the eye appeal is awesome. PCGS 12, NGC 4, CAC 5. The most recent example brought $5,280 in the 2019 FUN auction, while this coin sold a few months prior for $5,760. The Collectors Universe value is $5,000 and the CAC CPG value is $5,620. A great type coin that will delight anyone working on a gold type set. Bid accordingly! Cert. Number 34670166 PCGS # 7540.00
