- Mostly white with a hint of pleasing champagne toning. Glittering fields contrast nicely with frosted devices on this attractive Cameo. Trade Dollars were first minted in 1873 for circulation in Asia, but when the silver price declined, mintage was limited to coinage needed to meet export demand. There was little need for the coins after 1878, and issuance was limited to proofs only until 1885, after which the type was discontinued. PCGS 43, NGC 26. PCGS price guide valuation is $3,750. Most recent auction record was for a CAC stickered coin that brought $3,525 in March 2017; a non-CAC coin brought $3,055 in August 2015.
