- Legend-Morphy is proud to offer this world famous rarity! We can't even begin to estimate how many people still search their change looking for this coin. When our sister company announced that they had completed the incredible Simpson 1C 1943 PDS Set, they made worldwide news, but anytime one of these classic rarities sells, it makes major news.
This is a very nice, problem free piece, and although there is small planchet defect on the lower right obverse, it does not detract from the overall quality. The surfaces are clean, smooth, and slightly glossy, while the color is a crisp, even, original brown. Lincoln and all of the details are exceptionally struck. The wear is light and there is no discoloration on any of the high points. The eye appeal is fantastic!
PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. PCGS has graded only four higher, two of which (the AU58 and the finest graded MS62) are both in the Simpson Collection. PCGS has graded only seven total P Mint pieces and this confirms the estimates that less than a dozen P Mints are believed to exist. There is only one D Mint and four S Mint pieces, two of which are locked up in a major collection. The opportunity to own any 1943 1C is as rare as the coin itself! Fewer of these appear than 1804 $1 or 1913 Liberty 5C pieces and the story of 1943 Coppers is every bit as intriguing as any major classic rarity.
This piece last sold for $317,250.00 (1/13 Stacks-Bowers). PCGS Coin Values estimate even an XF40 at a minimum of $150,000.00 and we believe one day, these will all bring a minimum of $1,000,000.00! These coins are undervalued in today's rarity driven marketplace, especially given their worldwide fame. PCGS #E82709.
