- GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1757. Dresden Mint. Augustus II (1733-63). NGC MS-63.
Dav-2674A; KM-934; Schnee-1043. No hair curl under large bust, with orb missing above I.D.B on the reverse. The only piece seen for the specific type at NGC, with none seen at PCGS. Struck during the Prussian occupation in the middle of the Seven Years War, arguably the first truly world conflict. Different theaters of the conflict had regional names, in the case of Prussia against Saxony and Austria, it was locally referred to as the Third Silesian War. A magnificent example of the type, fully struck with every last curl crisply delineated, and an exquisite amount of detail rendered within the reverse shield. Free of major marks or abrasions, and with a bountiful amount of color within the deep tone. A coin that was clearly set aside at the time of minting, with the resulting state of preservation bearing testament to the great care and stewardship bestowed upon the coin since then. For collectors of German States Taler coinage, a piece that will add significant depth to even the most advanced collection.
Estimate: $3,500 - $5,000.
