FROM THE BEAR CREEK COLLECTION The 1848 dollar is a known rarity among the Seated dollars, indeed, its mintage of 15,000 it is the lowest mintage from 1840-1850, and is one of th lowest in the entire series. The present MS62 offers a semi-Prooflike mirrored luster, typical of such a low mintage issue. The fields show a watery texture, radiating with a strong brilliance from below a layer of coppery-golden tan that mingles with light violet that can be seen at certain angles. Generally well struck, there are areas of minor, typical weakness that are noted. Scattered contact marks, including a small scratch under the second T in STATES will forever identify this nearly Choice example as the former Sterling Collection coin (not noted on insert). PCGS 10, NGC 0. VERY RARE any finer, with just 11 graded higher. This coin last sold in August 2007 for $6,038 and the current PCGS price Guide value is listed at $9,000. This is a pleasing example, one that has been long off the market, and is about as fine as anyone can hope to acquire. Good luck. Cert. Number 25534725 PCGS # 6935.00
