详细说明: A totally original example! Over a million 1873-S double eagles were struck, with two distinct date styles, the Closed 3 and the Open 3. While it is not known exactly how many of each variant were produced, the Open 3 clearly did not survive in the same numbers as the Closed 3. After 35+ years of 3rd party grading, PCGS and NGC have combined only 272 in all Mint State grades, with NONE HIGHER than MS62. We suspect there is at least some duplication of submissions hoping to attain a tied for finest graded example. The present coin is wonderfully lustrous with a rich, honey gold color with accents of tangerine and rose that comes out as the surfaces are rotated in a light. The surfaces do show some minor marks and ticks from bag storage, but we do not consider them to be hacked up at all. The eye appeal is very choice for a coin only graded MS61 and deserving of the CAC bean. PCGS 84, NGC 65, CAC 23. We have sold six examples, ranging from $10,575 to $12,338; the current CAC CPG value is $11,600 and the PCGS Price Guide value is $15,000. CAC has only approved three in MS62 out of the 21 examples total graded between PCGS and NGC at that TOP POP grade level.
