1877-CC Liberty Eagle. VF-25 (PCGS). OGH. The soft orange-gold surfaces of this key date eagle are alive with deeper orange in the protected areas. A shallow diagonal furrow on Liberty's jawline is the only mark of note. The 1877-CC is always among the dates noted for its absolute rarity -- just 3,332 examples were struck. Practically all of the mintage saw modest to heavy circulation in the Carson City area. PCGS has not certified an example of the date in Mint State, and that firm suggests as few as 60 to 75 1877-CC eagles can be accounted for in any grade today.
