1844-D Liberty Half Eagle. AU-55 (PCGS). Fully struck in the usual bright yellow-gold with a hint of green, typical of the gold from the Dahlonega region. The strike is sharp on all devices, and the surfaces show moderate handling evidence that blends into the devices and fields. Residual luster in the protected areas. One of the more available issues from this mint, always a delight in high grade to collect, with the large formal "D" on the reverse for the mintmark. Scarce this well preserved, the majority found today range about 15 to 20 grade points lower than this of the date and mint.
