- <strong>Obv:</strong> James Barton Longacre's "French Head of Liberty" design, per numismatic tradition. A bust of Liberty faces right with a wreath of oak and vine leaves on her head, a ribbon or scroll inscribed LIBERTY crossing her right shoulder. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the date 1859 is below. <strong>Rev:</strong> A wreath of cereals encloses the denomination 50 CENTS. Richly original surfaces are toned in pewter gray with halos of iridescent cobalt blue at the peripheries. The toning is deeper on the reverse, although the frosty to lightly reflective finish is discernible on both sides. One of the nicest of 50 or so examples of this Judd number in numismatic hands.
