A popular "transitional" issue struck with the regular dies on a bronze planchet used from 1864-1909. Struck in medal turn, as opposed to coin turn, as typically seen. A Rarity-3 pattern, making it a great introductory level issue for those looking to "dip a toe" into the exciting world of pattern collecting. Brilliant, watery mirrors belie some wonderful golden-brown and lilac, rose, and violet accents. The strike is bold and the surfaces are devoid of any serious contact, lines, or flecks. The eye appeal is wonderful. PCGS 11, NGC 11. The most recent PCGS-graded examples sold in 2016, realizing $1,540 and $1,763. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $2,000.
