- Beautifully toned and beautifully preserved, this is a SUPERB example of this short lived sub-type with Arrows at the date. Impressive satiny luster blooms vividly on both sides, glowing through a swirling blend of azure and peach-rose-golden hues. The devices are sharply struck up, there are a few minor ticks that keep it from obtaining a CAC bean. The eye appeal is very, very bold indeed! The American economy was clearly changed dramatically after the discovery of gold in the hills and river beds of Northern California. The ratio of gold and silver in commerce forced the value of silver to rise above their face value. In 1853, the weights of the half dime, dime, quarter, and half dollar was reduced to rebalance the ratio of gold to silver, and to tell the old tenor from the new, the mint placed arrows at the date, creating a shortlived sub-type. PCGS 2, NGC 0. There are just two finer, both MS67. This is the coin that sold in the 2016 ANA auction (a weaker market) for $17,625. More recently a PCGS MS66 CAC (no "+") sold in June 2017 for $19,975. The PCGS Price Guide value is $19,500. Keep in mind a 67 will cost upwards of $50,000! An important type coin worthy of an exceptional set. Cert. Number 25631715 PCGS # 6283
