Another old friend, this coin was sold as lot 586 in our May 2018 Regency Auction, where it was described as: "A very cool GEM DCAM Seated half! While this date is seen with cameo contrast on a somewhat regular basis, 1887 halves with DCAM contrast are extremely RARE. Frosted devices, showing generally full strikes that contrast against icy smooth, crystal clear, deep and beaming proof mirrors! The contrast is dramatic and clear. Essentially untoned, save for a gentle touch of the clearest gold, and the eye appeal is AMAZING! Only 710 Proofs were struck. PCGS 1, NGC 2, CAC 1. In May 2018, this coin sold for $9,106 and in 2023 it sold for $8,812. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $11,000. Just two are finer at PCGS.
