As specialists in modern U.S. Mint coinage know all too well, the high mintage circulation strikes from the early 1960s are notoriously difficult to locate with both sharp striking detail and expert surface preservation. These were workhorse issues that the mints churned out in vast numbers with little regard for quality control, either during striking or immediately thereafter.
