- THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION Ex Gerrie Collection, as noted on the insert. A fantastic example, fully CHOICE and lustrous and boasting a provenance that goes back well over a century! Tied for seventh place in the Breen/Bland census and tied for 10th in the Noyes census, this is an important coin for the early copper collector. Boldly lustrous steely brown surfaces have a wonderful blush of the palest bluish iridescent hue in the protected areas. The only identifiable "flaws" we see are a couple of mint made planchet flaws, including a pair of flakes at stars 5 and 6. A closer look with a strong glass will find a scattered tick or two, but none that are too distracting. The eye appeal is exceptional overall, what a great type coin! Ex. Charles Steigerwalt; John G. Mills Collection, Chapman Brothers, April 1904, lot 1273; George H. Earle Collection, Henry Chapman, June 1912, lot 3444; Charence S. Bement Collection, Henry Chapman, May 1916, lot 322; Howard R. Newcomb Collection, J.C. Morganthau, May 1945, lot 470; Wayte Raymond; J.H. Spray Collection, Stack's April 1975, lot 20; Hank Rodgers; L. Barnett; David Akers Session of Auction '89, lot 1007; Sil DeGenova; Steve Contursi; Superior's Session of Auction '90, lot 1009; Steve Contursi; Stu Levine; ANR's Frog Run Farm Collection sale, lot 147; Chris McCawley; Paul Gerrie Collection, Goldberg's February 2013, lot 73; our current consignor. PCGS 12, NGC 3, CAC 2. As a PCGS MS62 BN, not CAC, this coin brought $25,300 in 2013. This really high end example will see a very strong bidding war among EAC collectors when it crosses the block. Good luck. Cert. Number 26773019 PCGS # 1543.00
