- 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar. 7 Tailfeathers. Reverse of 1878. MS-65+ (PCGS). Amazing rainbow colorations bisect the reverse in a vertical fashion; colors of sunset-gold, lime-green, crimson-red, cobalt-blue, and sky-blue are included; the obverse is essentially untoned. Well struck with frosty, underlying surfaces. Considering that 1878 is the first year of issue of the Morgan dollar, considering that this is one of the most important of the well-known varieties, considering that it has gorgeous iridescent toning, and considering that it is one of the finest graded by PCGS, these elements will surely come together to create excitement as it crosses the block.
