Only 12,000 circulation strike 1888 half dollars were struck, and this one is tied for FINEST PCGS-graded example of this lower mintage late date Seated half. A frosty mint brilliance shimmers below a layer of steely blue and pearly silver and delicate apricot-gold, with an iridescent lilac-silver patina. The central devices are crisply struck and there are some very minor areas of weakness seen with the aid of a strong glass. The dies were clashed at time of minting, and the only marks visible are the clash marks. This lovely example is VERY HIGH END for the assigned grade and the eye appeal is amazing. PCGS 8, NGC 7, CAC 6. The most recent example to sell realized $17,038 in our October 2021 Regency Auction. The presently offered example has been off the market since 2017. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $17,500 and the CAC CPG value is listed at $17,300. We will expect this SUPERB GEM will bring a very strong bid when the hammer falls. Bound for a great set. Cert. Number 38140707 PCGS # 6370
