- Near-Mint "Inverted Π" Variety Catherine II 10 Rubles RUSSIA. 10 Rubles, 1766-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Catherine II (the Great). PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. Fr-129a; KM-C-79a; Bit-14. Variety with inverted "п" in mintmark. This SCARCE variety features an inverted middle letter in the mint signature below the bust of Catherine. To this cataloger's eye, the present specimen would appear to be rather conservatively graded, as the degree of handling seems extremely slight at best, with the original mint luster off the charts and the strike being rather bold. So brilliant are the fields that the devices even feature a hint of frosting, ultimately yielding a slight prooflike nature. When coupled with the inverted middle mint letter, this exceptional example should rather easily generate tremendous enthusiasm and highly spirited bidding.
