- 1857-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-61 (PCGS). Warm honey-orange color greets the viewer from both sides of this boldly struck, uncommonly original example. While this is the most plentiful Type I Liberty Head double eagle in Mint State, most such coins were recovered from the shipwreck of the S.S. Central America. The present example is not from that find, as the color and surface texture confirm, and is a scarce alternative for the advanced gold enthusiast. PCGS# 8922. NGC ID: 2696.
