PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). PCGS VF-30 Gold Shield; Countermark: VF Details. KM-138.2; Gil Crown variety-5-4-3-III. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). On a 1835-LM MM Peru Republic 8 Reales with obverse legend spelling error "POR AL UNION". An EXTREMELY RAREhost coin countermark combination with only four examples that we have recorded including the present example, all with Y.II. countermarks. Moderately circulated, with a good deal of deeper toning and minor earthen deposits amongst the devices. An exciting sneaky rarity sure to excite even the most advanced collector of Philippines or Peruvian numismatics. It is interesting to note that the obverse legend spelling error, "POR AL UNION", only occurs on two dates from the Peruvian Republic 8 Reales series, the 1833-LM MM and 1835-LM MM; both of which are extremely rare in their own right. All examples of as a Philippines host that we are aware of are dated 1835, none are known for the 1833. Known examples: 1) 1835-LM MM. Gil Crown variety-5-4-3-II.
