- 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 43-d, W-5225. Rarity-1. AU-55 (PCGS). Dominant olive-charcoal patina with intermingled streaks and swirls of lighter sandy-tan color. Ideally centered on a smooth and round planchet, bold to sharp definition also confirms the superior quality of this piece, as made. Surface preservation is also well above average for the type, both sides with a hard satin texture that is free of all but trivial handling marks along the lower right obverse border and within the vertical stripes of the shield on the reverse. A tiny, shallow flan flaw in the left obverse field is mentioned solely for accuracy.
