- Lot 395 1854 N-30 R6-. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown.Lustrous light olive with faded mint color in protected areas on both sides, particularly on the reverse. The surfaces are frosty and nearly flawless, and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The only notable mark, and it is trivial, is a tiny speck of darker toning over the upper right point of star 6. MDS, the only die state known for this variety that combines the obverse of 1854 N-21 (later) with the reverse of 1854 N-23 (earlier). Nicely struck except for some weakness on the coronet over LIB, as always on this variety. This variety was unknown until it's discovery in 1993. Thirty examples are known now, and this is the finest of that group. Graded MS60 and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photos #60402 and 61019. Our grade is MS60+, CC#1 in the Grellman census. Previously housed in a PCGS holder graded MS64RB (PCGS label #1905.64/13857081), but the mint color has faded since then.
