- 1795 Liberty Cap Cent. S-78. Rarity-1. Plain Edge. AU-55 (PCGS). This attractive 1795 cent combines a high numerical grade and pleasing light brown color, as well as a nice strike. While the planchet exhibits a few areas of fissures and voids, these are natural and are commonly seen on early cents--also they are not from improper storage but were present at the time the planchet was rolled out prior to striking. Bold curls on Liberty and free of any handling problems, matching on the reverse where the wreath and legends are generally well struck and attractive. As a type issue with the Liberty Cap style is hard to find this appealing, with demand from collectors always exceeding supply when coins of this quality cross the auction block.
