EX. P. KAUFMAN COLLECTION. One of the FINEST Proof 1884 halves that exists! This is a very high end, beautifully toned, SUPERB GEM example. Mottled copper blends with lilac-dove and apricot-rose hues. Highly reflective, brilliant mirrors beam all over on both sides. The sharply struck devices really do stand out with a gorgeous look. The eye appeal is excellent! Only 875 Proofs were struck in addition to the paltry mintage of 4,400 business strikes. As such, proofs were often included in complete sets of Seated half dollars. PCGS 5, NGC 5, CAC 3. This is the famed Kaufman-Gardner coin that sold in May 2015 for $7,931; prior to selling for $5,880 in October 2018. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $9,500 and with none finer in the non-CAM designation, this SUPERB coin will delight the advanced Proof Seated half dollar collector, as well as type collectors, or anyone who appreciates great coins.
