- One of the most beautiful designs of the entire U.S. series, production of the Standing Liberty quarter series began in December 1916, and only 52,000 were struck. Hermon MacNeill's standing representation of Liberty holding a shield and olive branch, stepping through what looks like a boat's gangway portrays America stepping out on to the world stage and its readiness in times of war and peace. This nearly-CHOICE Mint State specimen has a fantastic look. A soft, satiny glow radiates warmly from below a delicate dusting of the clearest gold tone. The devices are sharply impressed from an exacting blow from the dies. A few ancient traces of contact can be detected with a strong glass, which has little impact on the visual allure. PCGS 24, NGC 35. The most recent example to sell in auction brought $12,338 in our May 2020 Regency Auction, on an estimate of $10,000 and up. Surpassing the other examples that have sold. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $16,000. A KEY to the 20th century series, this coin will see very spirited bidding before the hammer falls. Good luck. Cert.
