- 1905 Barber Half Dollar. Proof-65+ (PCGS). CAC. Fully struck, as befits the method of manufacture, with flashy Proof reflectivity coming into view as the surfaces dip into a light. The overall appearance, however, is dominated by wonderfully original toning in iridescent silver-rose, olive-orange, mauve-gray and powder blue. While not among the rarest Proof half dollars of this type in an absolute sense - the mintage is 727 pieces - we have offered remarkably few Gem-quality examples of the 1905 in recent years. In fact, apart from a PCGS/CAC Proof-67+ that sold in our July 2021 Collectors Choice Online Auction, the Abigail specimen is the highest graded to appear in one of our sales in the last decade.
