- 1806 Draped Bust Cent. S-270, the only known dies. Rarity-1. MS-62 BN (NGC). A rare Mint State example of one of the semi-key dates of the Draped Bust cent series. From a reported original mintage of 348,000, just one die pair is known for the 1806 date, and after the famous 1799 and 1804 this is clearly the next most difficult date to find of the type, especially so in higher grades. In this context, the issue seems to be somewhat underrated in the current marketplace. This sharp, unworn example is golden-brown with a natural mottling of reddish-chocolate and deep olive hues. Subdued obverse luster while the reverse displays some vibrant cartwheel frost. A dusting of light verdigris is noted within some of the details. No marks of any consequence are seen on this overall impressive piece. PCGS# 1513. Click here for certification details from NGC.
