1866 Liberty Double Eagle. AU-53 (PCGS). First of the Philadelphia Mint double eagle issues of the Type II (w/Motto) design, the 1866 has long enjoyed strong demand in numismatic circles. The present example exhibits the sharp striking definition for which the issue is known, both sides presenting very well in this regard despite the presence of light wear. Bold honey-orange color throughout, with wispy obverse hairlines being the only individually mentionable detractions.
