- 1870 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-64+ (PCGS). CAC. A beautifully toned, wonderfully original specimen with mottled pinkish-silver, powder blue and reddish-gold toning to the obverse. The more reserved reverse exhibits powder blue rim highlights framing otherwise even sandy-gray patina. From a Proof mintage of 1,000 coins, premium quality survivors of which are more challenging to locate than Proof Liberty Seated half dollar issues dated 1879 to 1891. An impressive provenance further enhances the desirability of lovely coin. Provenance: From the BASH Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of the John Work Garrett Collection for the Johns Hopkins University, March 1976, part of lot 304, a complete 1870 Proof set of minor and silver coinage.
