Production for the three silver Barber coins was 543 pieces this year, and perhaps 90% have survived – enough in high grade to permit the serious Set Registry participant to assemble a top notch set. The Matte Proof Gold is of typical rarity, which is to say quite rare indeed. Auction appearances for PCGS certified pieces are few and far between, with none recorded for Double Eagles since 2009. In undertaking a Matte Proof gold set, patience will prove as necessary as money.
