1908 Proof Set with Gold

The 1908 Proof set is the last of the "late 19th Century" sets, retaining the form it had since the introduction of the Barber silver series in 1892. All the coins are of average rarity for their respective series and the set should not prove difficult to assemble though as of this writing only one current set on the Registry is complete. The gold coins for 1908 introduced Bela Lyon Pratt's incuse Indian Head design for the Quarter and Half Eagle. The Eagle and Double Eagle of St. Gauden's design, while introduced the previous year, saw their first regular matte Proof strikings in this year as well. It goes almost without saying that all these Matte Proof gold coins are quite rare, and opportunities to acquire PCGS-graded pieces at auction occur infrequently.
