Nice deep mirrors set against the frosty obverse and reverse devices creating a spectacular 19th century proof seated dime. 1890 had the lowest population of producing these proof dimes between 1878-1891 with only 590 total coming out of Philadelphia.

Icy devices exhibit exceptional contrast with glassy fields. Perhaps a Deep Cameo designation is denied only by the peach patina that clings to the margins. The surfaces are intricately struck and pristine, save for a single hair-thin mark on each side of star 11.

Only 590 proof Morgan dollars were struck in 1890, the smallest production total between 1878 and 1921. The Mint seems to have taken more trouble with the proof sets in 1890 than they did in 1889, as the coins are generally of a higher quality than the previous year. This high-end Gem exhibits razor-sharp definition on all design elements and the devices are richly frosted. The fields are deeply mirrored, creating an intense Black-on-white cameo effect when the coin is tilted in the light. The brilliant surfaces show a few hints of pale gold toning at the rims and only a few minor signs of contact are evident. Eye appeal is terrific.
