My Dad! A great person and a wonderful example for so many young men. Born and raised in Whittier, California; attended Whittier College where he played basketball. Met Dorothy Mildred Redford (1924-2012) in Long Beach, California where they were married in 1945. (See more details at Moms 1924 Mint Set.) A Scoutmaster for 30+ years and a Rotarian for at least that long, Dad served the community in so many ways. I sure miss him and wish I'd been mature enough to truly appreciate all he did for me.

The severe deflationary recession of 1920-21 took its toll on coinage production with nearly all the minor coins showing extremely low mintages. The resurrection of the Morgan dollar also was responsible for the reduced output of Cents through Halves. While all five minor denominations were struck, the Halves in particular were made in tiny quantities, with the combined mintage from all three mints totaling only one million pieces. Even in mid-circulated grades these are four figure coins, and in MS-65, the 1921-S can approach six figures. The Nickel, Dime and Quarter are also all scarce, due to their low mintage. As if the copper, nickel and silver issues from this year were not tough enough, the gold set includes the 1921 Double Eagle, one of the major rarities of the series. Even in circulated grades, it is a mid-five figure coin and in Mint State, has realized in excess of $1 million at auction.
