From the Royalist provisional mint of Guadalajara, Mexico. Variety without a period in front of the "HISPAN". Struck with rusty dies, planchet flaws.
Yonaka-M8-117, Calbeto-884 - Beautiful color and a nice variety with the first 1 in date re-punched and moved to the right with the traces of the previous digit still showing. From the Plus Ultra sale by Soler Y Llach. Previously Carlos Fuster, March 1988.
Yonaka-M8-119, Calbeto-887 - Single finest of the date at either NGC or PCGS as of August 2019. A superior representative of the type with lovely smokey golden-grey tone over the lustrous fields with areas in the peripheries that exhibit rich multicolored patina.
Yonaka-M8-77a - 1777/6 - A nice clear example of this Rare (R2) over-date pedigreed to Phil Rutherford's collection.
Yonaka-M8-116 - While the toning is a bit on the darker side, this coin exhibits flashes of mint state luster throughout. Purchased from Kent Ponterio and previously residing in an NGC MS62 holder (6688541-014/62).

Yonaka-M8-103a - Rare (R3) variety with assayer initials FT punched over the previous assayer FM.
Yonaka-M8-108a - Nice original example of this tough (R3) over-date variety. Interesting oddity on the obverse that shows a small ladder pattern on the bust, pointing to something being already on the planchet when truck (perhaps an overstrike, which would be very unusual for the series)
Yonaka-M8-110b - Graders missed this over-assayer HJ over TH. R2 rarity. Well-struck for the issue, this crown exhibits a bright sheen on its inky-gray surfaces.
Yonaka-M8-111b, Calbeto-unlisted - extremely rare (R3) over-assayer with only a couple of known examples.
Yonaka-M8-112a, Calbeto-870 - Nice coin with moderate luster and some toning. 61 grade is just odd for this one.
Yonaka-M8-113 - Tough assayer combination for this year to find in this nice of a condition. Original toning with traces of luster reflected by an AU50 grade. Acquired from Chris Alvarez at the 2024 USMex show in Arizona. Previously in an NGC AU53 holder (6920657-001/53)
Yonaka-M8-114b - A misattributed 1814/3 overdate. A wholesome, lightly circulated example with even wear and strong dark gray toning throughout. Ex: Phil Rutherford's Collection.
Yonaka-M8-115b, Calbeto-879 - Rare (R2) variety with only 5 examples documented.
Yonaka-M8-87 - Toned with lustrous blue and rose highlights among devices. Pedigreed to Archer M. Huntington collection and previously residing in an NGC61 holder.
Yonaka-M8-112 - Scarcer of the two assayer combinations for this year. Dark toning with colorful undertones on the reverse. Slight strike weakness that held this coin from a higher grade. Previously in an NGC MS63 holder.
Yonaka-M8-83a - A well-traveled and rare (R2) variety with assayer initials FM. There's a belief that most of these ended-up in China as part of the 19th Century silver trade and that's why the few examples that do surface often contain chopmarks.

Yonaka-M8-102 - Beautiful combination of green, rose, and golden toning.
Mint Error - R over G in GRATIA. Die sinker erroneously punched the wrong letter into the die and had to fill it with softer metal and re-punched the correct letter over it. Over time the softer metal used to hide the repair compressed from all the striking, revealing the previous letter G. Unique so far. Discovery coin - discovered March 2025.

Yonaka-M8-108-VII Type B portrait - One of the uniquely toned signature coins from Morton & Eden's March 2013 sale of the Archer M. Huntington Collection. A wild toner with about the most intense emerald green, aubergine and golden orange color I've seen on this type. Part of lot #388 ANS Inventory #1001.1.9729 donated to HSA in 1946
Yonaka-M8-108-VII - Gorgeous example of this abundant date in the Ferdinand VII Armored Bust series. Type A portrait, which is the most likely candidate for the first portrait design, as it occurs most frequently in 1808 and less so in 1809. This is also a sub-type with Ferdinand's mouth slightly open. An overall pleasing coin with a multicolored patina.

Yonaka - Unlisted. Variety with second 1 in the date struck over an inverted / upside-down 1 or an I from the legend.
Yonaka-M8-74 - Fantastic color with just a hint of friction. The least abundant normal type in the 1772-1821 8 Reales Portrait series.

Yonaka-M8-93 - Gorgeous strike, color and luster on this fully uncirculated coin. The fact that it's in an AU58 holder is a travesty that will be addressed in the future. Ex: Mike Dunigan 2023 UsMexNA Show in Arizona.
Yonaka-M8-86 - A fantastic specimen superbly toned in shades of golden orange, indigo and rose on the obverse, with cool silvery blue and sea green on the reverse. Ex Morton & Eden’s March 2013 sale of the Archer M. Huntington Collection, one of three coins offered in lot #365. While not the highest graded at PCGS with one other coin in MS63, it does, in my opinion, possess superior eye-appeal to that specimen (cert# 17233896)
Yonaka-M8-72 - Lustrous and attractive example of this first year issue with armored bust of Charles III. Mintmark and assayers' initials (FM) facing rim, which is only seen on issues 1772-1773
Yonaka-M8-84a - The wholesome and attractive example displays lovely rich cabinet patina with iridescent hues that pop out when tilted in the light. This lightly circulated example offers even wear with much remaining luster in the protected areas. Pleasing to the eye and wholly original looking, this handsome example is sure to be a welcome addition to the collection. Ex NGC AU58
Yonaka-M8-94 - Great coin with pristine surfaces, original skin and luster. Previously in an NGC MS64 holder (6269013-010/64).
Yonaka-M8-110c, Calbeto-861a - No image and only described as "rare" in Calbeto and Scarce in Yonaka. Re-worked dies with a few re-punched elements. Strike weakness as often seen with 1809-1810 coins of this mint.
Yonaka-M8-104b - Rare (R2) variety with an unintentional misspelling of king's name as CARLUS. Less than 10 examples documented with only 2 in the good enough condition to be certified.
Yonaka-M8-72a - first dies of the Portrait Series with apparent confusion at the Mint as to how to place assayer's initials in the new design. Scarce variety MF instead of FM. Nice luster with a few small hairlines as expected for the grade. Acquired from World Numismatics and previously housed in an NGC AU55 holder.
Yonaka - Unlisted, but confirmed with Brad. TH/HJ over-assayer and a different die pairing to the previously documented discovery piece. Rarity is unknown, but based on my personal observations - roughly in an R3 range.

Yonaka-M8-116a - A beautifully toned and boldly struck example of this interesting overdate, in which the "6" was carefully punched to cover as much of the "5" as was possible. Ex: Phil Rutherford's Collection.
Yonaka-M8-101a - A rare (R3) overdate variety. A well-circulated, gray toned example that nevertheless has not received any significant marks. Ex: Phil Rutherford's Collection.
Yonaka-Unlisted - Discovery piece for this extremely rare overdate variety found in a massive hoard of 3,000+ chopped 8 Reales from China acquired by World Numismatics in late 2023.
Yonaka-M8-101d - A very rare (R4) overdate variety with assayer initials FT.
Yonaka-M8-101e - A rare (R3) variety combining both the overdate 1801/0 as well as the over-assayer FT/FM.
Yonaka M8-89-IIIa - Rare (R3) overdate with only 3 other examples observed as of Dec 2024, all from the same die. The 8 is clearly visible on the lower half of the 9. Comes from a 3000+ piece hoard of chopped 8 Reales portraits purchased by World Numismatics / Kent Ponterio in 2023.
Yonaka-M8-103c - One of the most elusive major varieties of the series. It should be noted that no known example with FM initials is confirmed for the previous year (on the 8 Reales), though it does occur in 1803 of the 4 Reales. This coin appeared in the June 1981 The Money Company sale where it was authenticated by the anti-counterfeiting committee of the IAPN and Mr Ferran Calico Jr. of Ferran & Xavier Calico in Barcelona. Later the authenticity was confirmed by NGC and the coin holdered in a Genuine "Details" holder. Update October 2024: Performed XRF testing on the coin and verified the correct composition for Mexico City Mint during the colonial period (460ppm Gold in the alloy) Update December 2024: Crossed to PCGS
