In 1760, Charles (Carolvs) III became King of Spain. In the Mexican coin series, Charles continued the "Pillar" Dollar design of his predecessor, Ferdinand IV. This series is replete with overdates and engraving errors of all sorts: for example, in 1760, you'll find "CAROLVS" stamped over "FERDND"; in 1770, you'll find one assayer's initials over another's (FM/F); in 1764, the engraver accidentally started CAROLVS with CR! There are no "stoppers" in this series, even amongst the varieties, but the 1762-MF, the 1763-MM, and the 1763/2-MM are difficult to locate in all grades. As with the earlier series from Ferdinand, this set is extremely difficult to locate in choice, Mint State grades.
