This is the first Gold Buffalo coin struck in a Revere Proof format. The coins went on sale on the U.S. Mint website on August 08, 2013 at an issue price of $1,640. each. However, individuals who ordered the coins received an estimated ship date of September 07, 2013. By August 15, 2013 sales reached 30,482 coins sold. 

To many collectors surprise, the Mint brought about 1,000 coins to the Chicago ANA Coin Show limiting customers to 5 coins each. The coins were so popular that dealers began paying about $1850. per coin or about a $200. premium from the Mint's issue price. Allegedly, there were about 250 people in line trying to buy the coins. 

The 2013 Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo has a lot going for it. It is the first gold Buffalo coin struck in a reverse proof finish and it has a beautiful and nostalgic design of the Indian head motif and the Buffalo design which are both very popular amongst collectors.
