The first president of the United States left quite an act to follow. Some met the challenge, some did not. His self-imposed two-term limit was followed until World War II loomed on the horizon. George Washington already graces the quarter and one dollar bill, still in production at the time this one dollar coin was minted, and has also appeared on the half-dollar and half-eagle!
